If you use government assistance programs like SNAP or WIC at Fred Meyer and QFC locations across the Portland metro area, you can now access significant discounts on fresh food, thanks to a new initiative launched by parent company Kroger.

The new "Verified Savings Program" offers eligible customers a 20% discount on fresh fruits and vegetables and 50 percent off "Boost" delivery memberships. The program is designed to support recipients of SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, and other government assistance programs.

The initiative comes as families continue to seek relief from grocery costs, particularly for healthy options.

"Making fresh food more affordable and equipping more customers with free grocery delivery is an incredible step in expanding food access," said Carlo Baldan, Kroger group vice president of Fresh Merchandising. "With the launch of the Verified Savings program, we are thrilled to make fruits and vegetables more affordable and eliminate one more barrier to food security in our mission to end hunger."

How It Works for Portland Shoppers

To access the savings at local Fred Meyer or QFC stores, customers must validate their eligibility online through SheerID, a third-party verification service. Once verified, the offers are automatically loaded to the customer's digital loyalty account.

The 20% discount applies to fresh produce purchases and is currently valid through Jan. 31, 2026.

Verification holds for five months, after which customers must reconfirm their eligibility to keep the benefits.

Delivery Discounts

In addition to produce savings, the program cuts the cost of annual "Boost" memberships in half. This service provides unlimited free delivery on orders of $35 or more — a vital resource for residents facing transportation barriers or those trying to save on time.

Under the new pricing, the "Boost Essential" plan drops to $34.50 per year (or $4.50/month), while the standard Boost plan, which includes faster delivery times, is available for $49.50 per year. These memberships also include double fuel points, adding value for commuters filling up at Fred Meyer fuel centers.

Eligibility

The program is open to recipients of various government assistance programs, including:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

  • Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

  • Medicaid

  • Medicare

Shoppers can check their eligibility and enroll by visiting the Fred Meyer or QFC websites or logging into their existing digital accounts.
