What Is Stumptown Savings?
Stumptown Savings is a newsletter and website that covers the Portland area's food economy. Every Thursday, I curate the best grocery deals from Fred Meyer/QFC, Albertsons/Safeway, WinCo, New Seasons, Whole Foods, and other local stores — personally reviewing ads, comparing prices, and highlighting genuine savings (not marketing gimmicks).
Every Tuesday, I also publish Rose City Receipts, taking you inside how one Portlander shops and eats for a week. In addition, I cover grocery and food production related news, profile local farms, farmers, artisans, and stores, and cover related stories as need.

Meet the Founder/Publisher
I'm Bryan M. Vance, a longtime Portland journalist who started Stumptown Savings after being laid off in April 2025. That’s me, learning to make brioche cinnamon rolls at Kitchen Culture!
I've lived here since 2015, working for OPB, Trust for Public Land, and City Cast, and previously served on the Montavilla Farmers Market board. My journalism background enables me to research deals methodically, while my digital marketing experience helps me distinguish genuine savings from marketing tricks.
