About Stumptown Savings: Let’s Shop Smarter, Portland!

Hey Portland, let's talk groceries.
You love this city, right? The food scene, the nature, the vibe ... it's awesome. But let's be honest, keeping the fridge stocked without breaking the bank has gotten tough. Prices keep climbing, wages feel stuck, and figuring out who really has the best deals each week? It's like a part-time job nobody asked for.
That's Where Stumptown Savings Comes In
I'm Bryan M. Vance, and I’m here to help you save time and money on groceries.Every Thursday morning, I send out the only newsletter that digs through the weekly ads for major Portland grocery stores (Fred Meyer/QFC, Albertsons/Safeway, WinCo, New Seasons, Whole Foods, local spots, the whole shebang!) to find the actual best deals. No fluff, no endless scrolling — just the highlights you need, delivered straight to your inbox.

That’s me, learning to make brioche cinnamon rolls at Kitchen Culture!
Paid subscribers, members of the Stumptown Savers Club, get additional coverage and access. And their support makes the free weekly deals newsletter possible. Stumptown Savings wouldn’t be possible without them. For $5 a month, or $50 a year (that’ s a 16% savings!), Savers Club members get:
Exclusive premium articles breaking down more ways to save
Insider store guides, offering tips and tricks for local stores
Seasonal & special shopping guides, helping you maximize freshness and local quality when shopping for groceries
Behind-the-scenes insights with quarterly reports about how Stumptown Savings is doing
And more benefits to come (I’m always working on ways to maximize the value for Savers Club members, and show my appreciation).
Why I’m Doing This:
I started Stumptown Savings in April 2025 after being laid off from my journalism job. I’ve called Portland home since 2015, having worked as a journalist and digital marketer for OPB, the Trust for Public Land, and City Cast. I also served on the board of directors for the Montavilla Farmers Market for a few years. I’ve fallen in love with the Pacific Northwest, especially the access to high-quality, ethically produced, locally grown, raised and made food products. Nowhere else on Earth has a food scene like ours.
But enjoying that food scene has gotten increasingly difficult. Inflation, stagnant wages, a global pandemic, and economic uncertainties have all conspired to make it harder to shop locally. Food producers are struggling. Prices for everything have gone up. And it can make it hard to shop locally.
My goal with Stumptown Savings is simple: help you save money and time so you can enjoy more of what Portland offers. It's not just about finding cheap eggs (though I'll definitely tell you when they're on sale!). It's about helping you shop smarter, shop ethically, waste a little less food, and free up your budget and your brainpower for things you actually enjoy.

Let's shop smarter, together.
Cheers,
Bryan M. Vance
